Black Inventors


Be very strong be very brave speak your mind but don't misbehave. Tell me the tails a time long passed; tell me of the invention's in which we now bask. Both males and female doing their thing with hopes of winning despite the colour of skin. 

 

Thomas L. Jennings may not be the Paul Bogle you know but all the same he started the trend we've all come to know. The first black man to every receive a patent and just so you know am not speaking Latin. In 1821 he on the nob because in his hand a license he had for his invention of "dry scourging". In 1879 Thomas Edison gave us a treat but his poor lightbulbs wouldn't last for a week then two years later Lewis Latimer stepped in with a filament that made us all win. 

 

Forget about stairs, climb on in we now have elevators that does a new thing. No more risky rides up, down and in between floors thanks to Alexander Miles (1887) we have automated elevator doors. In 1905 you could say a hairstyle revolution began with Madam C.J Walker and her African American hair care products so sweet that helped achieve a millionaire feat. 

 

In 1923 the son a slave made an invention that's with us even today; He invented the Three-Light Traffic Light and many more now you can drive in more comfort when you visit the store. In 1940 things took a turn because from a black man the whole world would learn. What was the lesson this you may ask Fedrick McKinley Jones  brought to us the refrigerated trucks now we are able to make nationwide deliveries of cold icy stuff.

Garret Morgan- Morgan was an African American who was the son of a slave. Morgan only had elementary school education but has notably contributed to today's inventions for the better of the world. His most notable invention being the three (3) light traffic light, that is used all over the world to this day. He also created other inventions such as the improved sewing machine and the gas mask. Even though being a man without proper education contributed to the development of the Rules of the Road and other significant developments.

Thomas L. Jennings- he became the first African- American to be granted a patent, it was awarded because of his revolutionary invention; dry cleaners, which he referred to as "dry scouring". He was based in new York , and was granted the patent in 1821. Him being the first black person to get a patent is history, and definitely paved the way for other black inventors. - rheanna s.

Mary Van Brittan Brown was an African American nurse.She co-invented the home security system.She spent her nights alone in Queens,New York while her husband was away.She felt unsafe because of high rate of crime in her neighbourhood.The police was unreliable so she created a device which will keep her comfortable.In 1966,she invented a system that used a camera that could slide into and look through four peepholes in her front door then it would appear on a monitor so she would know who is coming.She added other features such as a microphone to speak to anyone at the door and a button to call the police.She and her husband took out a patent for the system in the same and got awarded in 1969.Now in these days people have a home security system all because of Mary Van Brittan Brown.-SHANIQUA HENRY-

Patricia was born in Harlem and would go on to become a pioneer ophthalmologist,inventor and academic who is known for inventing a tool and procedure for the removal of cataracts using a laser beam called the Laserphaco Probe

Alexander Miles 1887
Alexander Miles invented the automatic elevator doors. The use of elevators in everyday life keeps people from climbing several flight of stairs. Before his invention riding a lift was both complicated and risky. When people forgot to shut the shaft and elevator doors multiple accidents would occur. After Alexander's daughter almost fell he decided to develop a solution that would solve this problem. His designs are largely reflected in elevators used today.

Alice H. Parker was an African American inventor known for her contribution to the heating furnace. She invented a furnace that supplied central heating for homes and entire buildings. Parker was from Morristown, New Jersey. She died in 1920 as a result of a heat stroke.

Alexander Graham Bell was the first to have design the telephone patented, in the mid - 1870s. During a sound experiment in 1875 Graham discovered that he could hear over the wire. The first phone call was made on March 10,1876 between Graham and his assistant Thomas Watson

Exodus 14: 1-16 Psalm 46:1-4 Philippians 4: 6-8/13.   The children of Israel were coming out of the land of bondage with a lot of the treasures of the land of Egypt freely given to them. Mark 8: 22-25   What you choose to "see" has and will always be determined by you and only you.
